Sustainability and growth

The third Sustainability Report, referring to fiscal year 2024, was published in 2025, the year of our Centenary — a milestone that celebrates the history of the Veroni family, the quality of our cured meats, and the challenges we have successfully overcome in Italy and abroad. This document marks another step forward in our corporate journey and demonstrates the continued consolidation of our commitment to ESG principles, encompassing the environment, people, and community. Our sustainability strategy continues to be guided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, as we work toward a more responsible, inclusive, and better future for all.

Environment

In 2024, we strengthened our commitment to ecological transition by investing in low-impact technologies and processes. The photovoltaic system at our Borgo Tossignano plant was completed, and today one-third of the electricity we purchase comes from renewable sources. Following Langhirano, Correggio, and Sala Baganza, our Gazzata di San Martino in Rio site is also in the process of obtaining ISO 14001 certification. We continue to monitor our Carbon Footprint, now including the mapping of transport-related emissions. Through the Bike to Work project, our employees cycled nearly 23,000 km, saving over 3 tons of CO₂ emissions.

With the circular economy initiative Back to Work, our employees recycled a total of 58 kg of work and sports shoes, which were transformed into synthetic mats — doubling the result achieved the previous year. In our company, 98% of cardboard packaging is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, and our commitment to sustainable packaging continues with solutions that reduce plastic use by 75%. On the product innovation front, our new Light & Yummy line has improved the nutritional profile of our cured meats by reducing fat, calories, and salt.

People

People remain at the heart of our growth strategy. In 2024, we delivered over 3,500 hours of training, strengthening the role of the Digital Academy as a space for continuous learning on innovation and sustainability. We continue to focus on well-being and work–life balance through “time-saving” welfare services, flexible hours, shopping vouchers, and shared leave programs. The SA8000 certification confirms our commitment to upholding labor rights and working conditions, while our whistleblowing platform ensures a safe and anonymous reporting channel. Through these initiatives, we promote an inclusive environment built on trust, safety, and shared growth.

Community

Our bond with the local community and the Emilia region is renewed year after year through projects that promote inclusion, culture, and solidarity. In 2024, we once again served as Main Sponsor of the Fondazione Insuperabili, with whom we share the value of inclusion through sport. We supported local initiatives such as the Circolo Culturale Primo Piano and the Associazione per la Prevenzione dei Tumori di Guastalla, strengthening our active presence in the area. Overall, we donated more than 13,000 kg of products to non-profit organizations, continuing to support those who work every day for collective well-being.

Governance

The year 2024 marked a period of consolidation and strategic vision. Following our entry into the American group SugarCreek Packing Co. in 2023 — with whom we share mission and objectives — the Veroni family continues to lead the company’s operations. One hundred years after the founding of F.lli Veroni Salumi, we continue to invest in innovation, internationalization, and social responsibility, aiming to combine economic growth with quality, and respect for people and the environment.
